The annual Open Doors jobs fair will take place on Tuesday 10 September from 1pm to 5pm at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe.

Once again, North Lincolnshire Council has joined forces with Scunthorpe Job Centre Plus to host the Open Doors jobs fair for those looking for a new position or to upskill.

The event invites local job seekers to meet with businesses from across the Humber region with vacancies to fill or courses on offer.

Wren Kitchens, Rainham Steel, TSC Foods, 2 Sisters Food Group, Humberside Fire and Rescue, Humberside Police, KFC, Bradbury Group, Moulded Fibre Products, HM Forces, Ongo, Amberline Care Ltd and Sandhills Court Care Home (Bupa) are among those attending this year’s event.

There will be further help on offer at the event including CV writing, mock interviews and advice on skills and qualifications needed for different careers. There will also be advice for veterans and their families, and for job seekers with disabilities or additional needs.

If you’re interested in coming along to the Open Doors event to get free careers advice and to speak to local employers, simply turn up at the venue on Doncaster Road, Scunthorpe, between 1pm and 5pm on 10 September.

From 4pm to 5pm will be the Open Doors quieter hour, to help support those who might struggle with music or other noise associated with large events.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, will officially open the event at The Baths Hall. He said:

“Last year over 1,000 people came to the Open Doors jobs fair and it was fantastic to see some people leaving with job offers or places on courses to learn new skills.

“By bringing together employers and training providers, we can showcase the great opportunities there are in North Lincolnshire, and encourage and support people to move up the career ladder, upskill, or get back into work.

“By introducing a quieter hour this year, we want to help break down some of the barriers people with additional needs or those who don’t like busy, loud places, have when it comes to finding employment.”

The Open Doors jobs fair forms part of the council’s ambition to create a job-ready, skilled workforce in North Lincolnshire, with access to higher paid jobs.

Anne Brewster Employer and Partnership Manager for Jobcentre Plus said:

“Scunthorpe Jobcentre Plus has worked with North Lincolnshire Council for a number of years now to put on the Open Doors event and each one seems to get busier, bringing more jobs and support to the people of North Lincolnshire.

“This inclusive event has something for everyone and I urge all those looking at their options, wanting to move into work or progress their careers to come along.  The quieter hour between 4pm and 5pm is particularly for those who might find a busy event a bit daunting; staff will be on hand to support and put people at ease.”
