What’s it like to train with North Lincolnshire SCITT

You can’t change the world, but you can change their world. Inspire the next generation: train to teach

Training with North Lincolnshire SCITT

North Lincolnshire SCITT works in partnership with schools and academies across North Lincolnshire.

You will train locally in a school or academy. North Lincolnshire has both rural and urban schools as well as special schools and alternative provision. Our partner schools serve diverse communities of children giving our trainees the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the landscape of education in North Lincolnshire.

There is a comprehensive school and centre-based ITT programme ensuring you are fully ready to continue to flourish during your Early Career Teacher (ECT) years.

Central training is led by experts from North Lincolnshire schools and beyond, as well as school improvement partners and lead officers who work for the Local Authority.

The programme is enhanced by providing an opportunity for secondary subject knowledge development with expert colleagues from secondary schools across North Lincolnshire, so trainees really benefit from county-wide expertise.

Primary trainees benefit from a spiral curriculum to develop secure subject knowledge across Literacy, maths, the foundation subjects and religious education.

To further enhance your training there are intensive training and practice and immersion days in different school settings.

You will train in two contrasting schools; the first term is your initial placement, then after Christmas you move to your main school where you stay for the spring and summer terms. Both placements enable you to be a part of the school team, where you will be treated as a valued member of staff.

You will have your own school-based mentor who will be a subject / phase specialist.

You will have 1½ hours per week dedicated time with your mentor focusing on your specific targets.

“The quality of training has been very good as I have really deepened my subject knowledge within in central training and school”. (Primary Trainee)

“Throughout the year I have developed massively as a teacher but also as a person. The training has improved my practice massively, especially the ITAP training”. (Secondary Trainee)

“Loved every minute of it. So many memories made, and a wealth of experience learnt and built upon”. (Secondary Trainee)

“I feel the training has fully supported me in qualifying to become a teacher. I have gained valuable in-site in the pedagogy of teaching. The in school training meant I was able to practise what I had learned during the central training”. (Secondary trainee)
