North Lincolnshire Adult Education and Community Learning courses

We offer a range of courses that will support you to learn new skills, progress to further learning, find employment or improve your career prospects.

Entry level: Designed for people with no qualifications and will help you improve your reading, writing and digital skills.
Level 1: To gain basic knowledge and skills. This may also be linked to employment skills.
Level 2: An ideal route into a career or provide an opportunity to get qualifications that prepare you for study at a higher level.

Functional English and maths courses are free for eligible learners who want:

  • a formal Functional English and maths qualification
  • to increase confidence using numbers
  • to increase confidence with reading, writing and discussion skills
  • to demonstrate English and maths skills on a CV
  • to progress on to further education

English topics will include:

  • developing discussion and presentation skills
  • spelling
  • using punctuation effectively
  • writing for different purposes
  • proof reading and correcting own writing

Maths topics will include:

  • fractions, decimals and percentages
  • calculating with money and measures
  • using shapes to solve everyday problems
  • graphs and charts

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

This course is suitable for learners for whom English is their second language. We provide a friendly and supportive environment to learn, helping you to develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

You will be able to improve:

  • grammar
  • spelling
  • punctuation
  • vocabulary

There may be a charge for ESOL courses, depending on your circumstances. Please contact us for details of how to pay and any fee reductions or remission that may apply.

Qualification (vocational) courses only:

If you are in receipt of the following benefits, you may be eligible for full fee remission:

  • Job Seeker’s Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) in the Work Related Activity Group (WRAG)
  • Universal Credit and earning less than £338 a month (single claim) or £541 (household claim)
  • Aged 19 to 23 years studying a first full Level 2 qualification

Fee remission is also available for eligible co-funded learners who are employed but on a low income (less than £16,009.50 annual gross salary)

Our employability courses are aimed at raising aspirations and confidence to help you make the right choices to get into employment. These courses range from where to start with your CV, to preparing for that all important interview. Course times and dates can be different, depending on demand and availability.   • Level 2 ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) Fast track Workshop. This course covers Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

Family learning allows parents to find out how their children learn. It helps parents understand how to support them better. Family learning is a method of engagement and learning which can foster positive attitudes towards life-long learning. Contact us for information about our family learning courses.

  • We can refer you to the Action Station at Scunthorpe Central for help with searching for jobs and finding work.
