Show us your Pride this July

July is Pride Month across North Lincolnshire; how are you showing your pride this July?

To mark the start of North Lincolnshire Pride Month 2019, the Mayor and Young Mayor of North Lincolnshire raised the Rainbow Flag – the traditional symbol of the LGBT+ community – in Church Square, Scunthorpe on Monday 1 July.

This year, shops and businesses across North Lincolnshire are invited to hold a Pride-themed celebration and partake in the ‘Best Pride Celebration’ competition, judged by the Mayor and Young Mayor of North Lincolnshire.

Businesses are invited to be as creative as possible with their space or organisation; celebrations could include raising a flag, decorating with bunting, inviting staff to dress colourfully, or holding a Pride-themed event.

Those who would like to enter the competition are asked to send photos of their celebration to communities@northlincs.gov.uk by Monday 15 July 2019.

The Rainbow Flag will continue to fly proudly in Scunthorpe town centre throughout July. Last year, the Rainbow Flag, or Pride Flag, was raised in North Lincolnshire for the first time outside the council’s former Civic Centre building.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council and lead member for Diversity, said:

“We are proud of the diversity of North Lincolnshire’s communities and help ensure North Lincolnshire is the best place to live for all our residents. We want to show that there is no place for discrimination or the incitement of hatred in North Lincolnshire, because it is important for all of us that we live in a tolerant and accepting community.

“It would be wonderful to see our partners, businesses, and the local community holding their own celebrations this July, to demonstrate their commitment to the LGBT+ community.”
