Building Regulations are minimum standards for design, construction and alterations to virtually every building. They are developed by the Government and approved by Parliament.

You can submit your building regulation application by applying online via the Planning Portal.

Applying online is simple:

  1. Register your details
  2. Select and complete the relevant forms
  3. Attach supporting documents and plans
  4. Pay the application fee online

Using this paperless service means that applications can be processed quicker; saving time, resources and money. See our Building Control fees and charges page for information about costs.

The Planning Portal is the home of planning and building regulations information and the national Planning and Building control application service for any Local Authority in England and Wales.

Which application do I need to use?

To help you decide which regulations apply to you, please use the Planning Portal interactive house.
