Children’s homes

To follow any changes to this service, visit the Council Service Updates page.

Children’s homes provide a homely and caring environment and are a positive option for young people who:

  • Require an alternative to foster care
  • Find a family setting challenging and choose residential care as their favoured alternative

Care within a children’s home is for planned periods of time. In some cases, young people may stay in the home until they move into independence. We do not advertise the location of these homes to protect the young people who live there. If you wish to make any enquiries about them please contact us.

A child who is cared for by the council will have a worker who will ensure everyone knows the arrangements for their care. The worker will make sure plans are in place and everyone knows who to contact. Children and parents can have access to these plans and other information held about them. The child will continue in their existing school where possible. Plans will be made for contact with people important to the child.

Adoption and fostering services

Our Adoption and fostering services have a team of workers as well as the adopters and foster carers. The service recruits and supports the adopters and foster carers.
