The Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Cllr John Briggs, will raise the Armed Forces Day flag on Monday 13 June in Central Park, Scunthorpe.

The Armed Forces Day flag will fly in honour of those that are serving or have served and their families, as well as cadets and reservists.

Before the flag is raised, there will be a static parade facing the dais in Central Park at 10.25am. The Mayor will greet the parade.

The Mayor will then raise the flag around 10.30am.

Cllr Briggs is going to be joined by staff and students from St Hugh’s School, Peter Thorpe, Chief Executive of North Lincolnshire Council, Revd. Lines, the Mayor’s Chaplain and Commodore Waterhouse, Naval Regional Commander Northern England.

There will also be members of North Lincolnshire Council, members of the North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day Committee, veteran associations, representatives from Royal British Legion and local cadets.

Anyone who would like to attend the flag raising ceremony should meet at the dais in Central Park at 10.20am. Parking is available in Central Park car park, Kingsway.

Cllr John Briggs, Mayor of North Lincolnshire, said:

“I am honoured to be raising the armed forces flag in Scunthorpe to start the celebrations in North Lincolnshire.

“Our armed forces, past and present, should be recognised for their dedication and selflessness. Armed Forces Day is all about paying tribute to these men and women.

“Everyone is welcome to attend the parade and flag raising ceremony to show their support to those who put themselves forward to protect our country and remember those who did in the past.”

Cllr Elaine Marper, Armed Forces Champion for North Lincolnshire Council said:

“Showing our support for our brave servicemen and women is so important. They have and continue to make a huge contribution to our country, and it is only right we honour them and thank them.

“The flag raising ceremony is the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and begin the celebrations of our armed forces community.

“North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day is taking place on Saturday 18 June, where people can show their support. It is always a wonderful free day out for the family. This year is set to be no different, with even more for all the family to get involved in – including a children’s arena.”

North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day is taking place on Saturday 18 June from 11am to 4pm at Brumby Hall Sports Ground in Scunthorpe. This year’s event is set to be bigger and better than ever with a spitfire flypast, new children’s arena and plenty of other family activities – what’s more it’s free.
