Young people and businesses owners will come together for a virtual apprenticeship expo designed to showcase the employment opportunities available across the area.

North Lincolnshire Council is hosting the virtual apprenticeship expo for people looking to become an apprentice and businesses seeking to employ them.

Almost 750,000 people are involved in apprenticeships nationally. This event will showcase the huge number of opportunities available to young people across the region.

The expo will be on Wednesday, 19 August from 9am to 4.30pm. People can access webinars, a range of information in relation to apprenticeships and get questions answered..

Two separate webinars have been organised. The first, from 11.30am to 12.30pm, is aimed at individuals interested in the council’s latest apprenticeship vacancies, especially within the engineering industry.

The second, from 2pm to 2.30pm, is aimed at businesses considering employing an apprentice and wish to know more about the processes involved.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Councils, said: “We have been working with the areas MP’s Holly Mumby-Croft and Andrew Percy as part of the Towns fund board to see how we can enhance employment opportunities for local residents and we came up with this Apprenticeship event to support young people at a time when they are receiving their exam results and making future life choices.

“Taking that first step on a career path is often the most difficult but there is whole range of information and advice available.

“We would normally be holding these events in person but clearly under the circumstances of Covid-19 we have created a digital version of the event and we are hoping it might actually attract more people.

“Apprenticeships are a brilliant opportunity for an individual to gain experience within a work environment while being able to further their education and obtain a qualification as well as get paid.

“There are a number of organisations within North Lincolnshire who offer apprenticeships to young people, including North Lincolnshire Council, as we recognise the potential that apprenticeships can bring to our workforce.”

To register your interest and to join in one of the webinars, please send your name and contact details to apprenticeshipsupport@northlincs.gov.uk. You can also submit any questions you may have about apprenticeships, either before or during the event.
