North Lincolnshire Council has supported hundreds of vulnerable residents ensuring they are kept safe, well and connected throughout the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

More than 1,700 residents have sought help with nearly 500 vulnerable residents having received direct assistance from the council including food shopping, collection and delivery of medicines and support with other essential items.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“I would like to thank everyone who is doing their bit during this very challenging time, from those in the community working with their friends, families and neighbours through to the council staff who have prioritised the most vulnerable.

“What has been highlighted more than anything recently has been the community spirit in North Lincolnshire.

“The protection of the most vulnerable people in our communities has always been a priority and we are continuing to do all we can to support them – the community response has been critical in allowing the council to make sure those who absolutely need help do get help.”

The council has championed a hugely successful community-led response and developed a new service which identifies the most vulnerable people by linking local data and insight with that from partners in the NHS and national government.

People are being supported initially by family, friends and neighbours so the council can to focus on prioritising those most in need, which includes people who either do not have support networks or where the community response cannot meet their needs.

Cllr Waltham said: “The focus remains on reaching residents who do not have support in place and connecting them to volunteers and groups within their communities.

“Everyone needs to keep pressing on as they have been so we can keep supporting the people who need our help now more than ever.”

Anyone looking out for their friends, family and neighbours are encouraged to share what they are doing with by taking photographs and sharing them using the #DoOneThingNL hashtag.
