North Lincolnshire Council is urging people to nominate unsung heroes in their communities for a 2019 Community Champion Award.

Do you know someone or a group that deserves an award:

  • for the time they have dedicated to volunteering?
  • for their contribution to the health and wellbeing of the community?
  • to recognise their personal achievement in overcoming barriers or excelling in a sport or the arts?
  • is there an individual or group that deserves recognition for their work in the local community?
  • or do you know someone who is a true inspiration to others?

The closing date has been extended to Monday 6 October 2019.

The awards are split into four categories: volunteer, achievement, community and inspiration.

Nominate your Community Champions online, where you can also find out more details.

People who live outside of North Lincolnshire can still nominate as long as they are nominating a person or group from North Lincolnshire.

If you don’t live in North Lincolnshire, when completing the online form, click ‘can’t find your address?’ and it will allow you to manually fill in your address.

If you are not able to nominate online, call 01724 297000 during office hours or email community.recreation@northlincs.gov.uk for a form.

Now in its eighth year, the Community Champion Awards is taking place on Thursday 28 November 2019 at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe.

Cllr John Briggs, Chair of the Community Champion Awards Committee, said:

“We established the Community Champion Awards to ensure that people in North Lincolnshire who go above and beyond to help others and achieve great things are recognised. Quite often this is on a volunteer basis and this should be highlighted.

“With awards including Young Arts Heritage Achiever of the Year, Outstanding Contribution to a Stronger Community, Adult Carer of the Year, Act of Bravery, and Anti-Bullying Champion – plus 18 others, you’re bound to know someone whose achievements deserve to be recognised.

“We have been made aware of an issue with our online form, therefore we have decided to extend the deadline to give people more time to get their nominations in. To nominate, visit www.northlincs.gov.uk/champion.”
