Reports of standing water in Midby Park in Barrow upon Humber. Residents are advised to be careful around flood water and not to allow children to play in floodwater areas.

Wash children’s hands frequently – particularly after playing outdoors and always before meals.

Seek medical advice, as under normal circumstances, if children are unwell with diarrhoea, fever or abdominal pain.

Infections in pets during and after periods of flooding are very rare. However, swallowing floodwater can cause stomach upsets or diarrhoea. It is advised to avoid direct contact with floodwater and prevent your pet from drinking flood water. Clean away mud and dry your pet well after outdoor access and wash your own and your children’s hands frequently when handling a pet that has been outdoors.

The latest update from Anglian Water is:

“Over a month’s worth of rain has fallen over the last week in parts of Lincolnshire, and in some areas our sewers are full to capacity. Our teams are currently helping those affected by flooding across the county and making sure our network is running as well as possible.

“Unfortunately, some residents in parts of New Holland and Barrow Upon Humber have been experiencing a loss of toilet facilities since the rainfall. Despite our engineers working to tanker the excess water away, the saturated ground and overwhelming of the sewer network, means that the water level is taking a long time to recede.

“We have deployed more tankers to the area and are working with North Lincolnshire Council to speak to customers who are still experiencing problems.

“Our advice to customers experiencing problems flushing their toilets is to limit the use of their washing facilities wherever possible, including the use of showers, dishwashers and washing machines. By reducing the amount of times these facilities are used it will reduce the pressure on the sewer network which will help the excess water subside quicker.

“If people are experiencing problems with their facilities, they should report this to us on 03457 145 145 or via Twitter or Facebook.”
