Welcome to SwimLincs, NL Active’s learn to swim programme

Swimming is an important life skill and our SwimLincs learn to swim programme will ensure children and adults become confident and safe in water.

Our aim is to provide the best learn to swim experience for your child and for you.

Our lessons run for 50 weeks a year with each lesson lasting 30 minutes, of which a minimum of 25 minutes will be water-based activities.

The SwimLincs learn to swim programme is available at

  • Ancholme Leisure Centre
  • Axholme North Leisure Centre
  • Baysgarth Community Hub
  • Riddings Community Hub
  • The Pods

The programme is divided into nine stages:

SwimLincs Minis

These 10-week learn to swim courses are available at Ancholme Leisure Centre and The Pods. These courses need to be booked by contacting the centre directly. Please note that for these sessions the parent / carer is in the pool with the child.

Adult and Baby – four months to 17 months (STA starfish award 1 to 3)

Adult and Tots – 18 months to three years of age (STA starfish awards 4 to 6)

SwimLincs

These classes need to be booked using the SwimLincs home portal and are £21 per month paid by Direct Debit. Your monthly payment will include one lesson per week for 50-weeks of the year and free swimming in casual swim sessions for the student so that they can practice between lessons. If you’re new to SwimLincs lessons and your child is already able to swim we advise that you contact us at school.swimminglesson@northlincs.gov.uk so that we can arrange a swimming assessment.

Pre-school lessons – for three year olds who are new to the water (STAnley awards 1 to 4)

Non-swimmer – four years plus, new to the water (Seahorse awards 1 to 2)

Beginner – four years plus, can swim 5m on front and back unaided (Seahorse awards 3 to 4)

Improver – can swim 10m on front and back unaided. Please note that these lessons are delivered in deeper water (Dolphin awards 1 to 2)

Intermediate – can swim 25m on front and back unaided. Children will be out of their depth in the water during these lessons (Dolphin awards 3 to 4)

Development classes – Rookie lifeguard (must be able to swim 200m to join this class)  and Challenge awards (must have completed Dolphin 5 to join this class)

It’s important that you book your child onto a class that they meet the criteria for (you can find the criteria above) as when your child starts their lessons they’ll be ability assessed to make sure that they meet the class requirements. If your child has joined a class above their swimming standard they won’t be able to continue in that class, and there may not be any spaces available in a lower class for us to move them into. If you’re not sure what class your child should be in please contact us at school.swimminglesson@northlincs.gov.uk and we’ll arrange an assessment so that we can let you know what class your child should be attending.

If you’re registering for the first time you’ll be taken to LeisureHub to complete this process. When adding your details please make sure that you use the details of the parent and not the child. Please be aware that if the home address you register with is different to the address that your bank has on file for you it may cause issues when setting up your Direct Debit. When you choose to ‘Add new member’ you’ll be asked to fill in the details of the child swimming. You’ll also be asked whether the child has any medical conditions we need to be aware of, asked how you’d like to receive news from us (please tick email as that’s how we will normally contact you about your lessons), and to agree to the SwimLincs Terms & Conditions.

You’ll then be shown a confirmation of your class choice and a payment summary which will show the monthly Direct Debit amount of £21, but the cost to pay today depending on what stage of the month you’re signing up for lessons. You’ll then be taken back to LeisureHub for the Direct Debit payment to be processed.

Once you have signed up for your swimming lesson you’ll be sent an welcome email with information on your first visit and what to expect. The first time you visit you’ll need to check in at reception so that you can collect your child’s membership card which will need to be produced in order to swim for free in our casual sessions.

Our swimming lessons run back to back so unfortunately there is no time for you to talk to your child’s swimming teacher during lesson time. If you have a question or would like to discuss your child’s progress we would ask that you complete a ‘Question and Answer’ form. The forms are available from the customer service desk in the centre. Your child’s teacher will contact you as soon as possible regarding your question.

SwimLincs Home Portal

You can view your child’s progress online using our SwimLincs Home Portal. When you log in to your account and go to ‘overview’ you’ll see the teaching criteria and the competencies your child is working towards.
