Safe reopening of leisure centres – FAQs

To follow any changes to this service, visit the Council Service Updates page.

Leisure centres phased re-opening

All North Lincs Active leisure centres have re-opened to the public. All North Lincolnshire facilities and activities will be continuously reviewed and additional activities will be added to our programme as government and industry body guidance changes.

So that we can control the number of people accessing the leisure centres all activities must be booked in advance. See the booking section below for more information.

Visitors to North Lincs Active facilities are now required to wear a face covering except when exercising. Some people are exempt from wearing masks and more information can be found at www.gov.uk

The NHS Covid-19 contact tracing app launched on 24 September and is available to download for Android and iPhone. The app will alert people when they have been near someone who has tested positive for coronavirus, allow people to check their symptoms, book a test and ‘check-in’ to places they visit using a QR code system. Everyone visiting our facilities is required to checkin and a QR code will be situated at all entrances for you to scan with the app. Those who don’t have the app or a smartphone, go to reception when you arrive to register your visit. Find our more and download the app here.

FAQs

All North Lincs Active leisure centres have been declared Covid safe.  Please don’t visit our facilities if you’re displaying any symptoms of Covid-19.

Keeping you safe is our number one priority and we’ve made some changes in the facilities to ensure this happens.

  • We have sanitiser stations as you enter and exit the buildings and inside the facilities
  • We’ve increased the cleaning regime throughout the day and we will be thoroughly cleaning areas and equipment between sessions
  • There are self-cleaning stations in gyms for you to wipe down equipment before and after using it
  • Buildings have been marked out to ensure social distancing. Please always follow instructions and directions and keep your distance from others
  • All activities must be booked in advance so we can monitor the number of people in the building
  • Gyms have been reconfigured to allow a safe space between equipment
  • The number of people who can access our facilities and activities has been reduced
  • Our dryside changing rooms will remain closed so please arrive workout ready
  • There will be no showers available. Please shower at home
  • Our first aid trained staff have undertaken additional training and sites have additional covid first aid PPE
  • All staff are undertaking CIMSPA covid safe training
  • Our gyms have been re-configured to maintain safe spaces between equipment and we’ve reduced the number of people in the areas.
  • All gyms have sanitising stations; please wipe down equipment before and after use. This is especially important at any touch points on the equipment, and this is in addition to the increased cleaning schedule that our gym staff will routinely be undertaking.
  • Please avoid working out face to face, and towels (sweat towels) will not be allowed to be taken into gyms, studios or sports halls
  • You’ll need to book a gym session in advance (1-hour duration) so we can control the number of people accessing our sites.
  • Our Dry side (Gym) changing rooms remain closed so please come ready to work out.
  • We’re running group fitness classes both outdoors, and indoors in larger spaces.
  • Class sizes have been reduced to allow for social distancing and no equipment is shared in the classes.
  • All equipment is sanitised before and after classes.
  • Our changing rooms remain closed so please come ready to work out. Classes must be booked in advance.
  • Social distancing guidelines must be followed throughout the class.
  • All North Lincs Active swimming pools have now re-opened.
  • We’ve reduced the number of people in our pools to allow for social distancing.
  • We currently have lane swimming and family swimming sessions programmed.
  • All swimming sessions are an hour long and must be booked in advance.
  • To minimise the amount of time spent in changing rooms please shower before arriving, have your swimming clothes on underneath your normal clothes, and shower at home after your swim.
  • Follow guidance on site regarding one-way systems and social distancing.

Due to Government, Swim England and STA guidelines regarding keeping you safe in our leisure centres, we unfortunately can’t resume SwimLincs lessons just yet.

We know how keen a lot of you are for your children to get back into the water, so until the full SwimLincs timetable can start again we’ve come up with an interim five-week course to help bridge the gap.

Your SwimLincs direct debit payments won’t resume until the full programme starts again. This is a separate five-week course that’s designed to reintroduce your child back into the water and develop stroke technique and stamina. The courses start week beginning 14 September and cost £24.50 for the five weeks. Payment is required at the time of booking.

You can book on to the course from 3 September by telephoning the leisure centres. This course is only available for current SwimLincs customers. Please note that places are limited due to us having to manage social distancing in the pool.

Five-week swimming course

Due to social distancing numbers have been significantly reduced. The five-week course has been designed to introduce your child back into the water and to develop stroke technique and stamina. The lesson delivery will not be measured against the SwimLincs criteria. Your child will have the opportunity to gain a distance badge on the last week of the course. Please be aware that your child may not be at the same level as they were prior to the suspension of SwimLincs.

Our five-week courses start week beginning 14 September. The following classes are available to book from 3 September:

  • Non-swimmers (only available at Ancholme Leisure Centre, Axholme North Leisure Centre and The Pods for children aged 4+)
  • Beginners
  • Improvers
  • Stamina and stroke development (suitable for intermediate upwards)

Timetables:

Ancholme Swimming Lessons

Axholme North Swiming Lessons

Baysgarth Swimming Lessons

Riddings Pool Swimming Lessons

The Pods Swimming Lessons

Will all SwimLincs members automatically have a place on the course?

Places are limited on these courses due to us having to manage social distancing in our swimming pools and buildings, therefore we can’t guarantee your child a place.

How will the five-week course be delivered safely?

Class numbers have been reduced to comply with social distancing guidelines and children will be positioned in the pool so they are 2m apart. Your child will be given their own equipment to use during the lesson and no equipment will be shared. All equipment will be sanitised before and after use.  Where possible swimming teachers will teach from poolside and will maintain social distancing during the lesson unless an emergency occurs. If you feel your child needs support in the water please contact the SwimLincs team to discuss options by emailing swimlincs@northlincs.gov.uk.

Your child will need to arrive at the pool swim ready. Only rinse showers are available and no hairdryers are in operation. Only one parent/guardian can access the changing rooms with your child.  Please follow directions on site regarding one-way systems. The swimming lessons will have staggered start and finish times to ease congestion within the changing rooms.  To comply with social distancing measures spectators will be limited to one adult per child.  Please avoid bringing other siblings who are not swimming to spectate.

Will my child retain their place when the SwimLincs programme starts again?

Yes, when we re-start the full SwimLincs programme your child will resume their place in the class that they were in prior to the classes being suspended.

When will SwimLincs direct debit payments start again?

SwimLincs direct debit payments will continue to be suspended until the full SwimLincs programme re-starts. We’ll contact you when we have more information on when this will be.

How do I book the five-week course?

We will take bookings from 3 September. To book your place telephone the leisure centre directly. At times our phone lines are busy so if you have trouble getting through please email the leisure centre with your contact details so we can call you back.
