North Lincs Veterans Community Hub has received a £9,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund Awards for All programme to ensure veterans support continues.
This funding will ensure that the Hub stays open and continues to support local veterans. It will also help with the building running costs and go towards paying for equipment as it is totally self-funded and entirely volunteer led.
North Lincolnshire Council supported Armed Forces veterans by helping volunteers set up the Veterans Community Hub on Frances Street in Scunthorpe in June 2017. The council continue to support the Hub and will be working with the Veterans Community Hub Committee to improve the building and create a welcoming and modern environment for veterans and their families to get support and information.
The Hub serves veterans, serving military, their families and dependents. It offers a safe environment where clients can be signposted to support organisations or access information themselves. If it is just company or a chat you need, the Hub can offer this as well.
Since opening last year, a lot has happened at the Hub including networking events, courses and workshops, drop-in sessions. Following a grant from Tesco, they were able to install disabled toilet facilities and a stair lift enabling access to the meeting rooms. The Hub team are currently engaging with local businesses and building tradesmen regarding further improvements.

The Hub opens every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
On Friday 16 November a charity event is being held at the Royal Hotel – Rock for Remembrance – in aid of the Hub, Royal British Legion and SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

“The Hub provides an opportunity to talk to people who have been through the same experiences and find out what support is available, if they need it.

“North Lincolnshire Council made it possible for our founder, John Terry, along with a team of Directors, to establish the Hub and see us open the doors in 2017. The generosity of local business, this Lottery Grant and our dedicated team of volunteers give us the confidence that we will be here to serve the Armed Forces community as long as we are needed. Sadly John passed away earlier this year. I hope we continue to fulfil his dream.”
