Reporting housing benefit fraud

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for investigating housing benefit fraud.

If you think someone is committing housing benefit fraud, you can report it online to the DWP:

Alternatively, you can call the National Fraud Hotline on 0800 854 4400.

Your call is free and confidential and you do not have to give your name or address. Lines are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.

If you have problems hearing you can use their text phone service on 0800 3280512.

You can also send details of suspect fraud to NBFH, Po Box 224, Preston PR1 1GP.

Other types of suspected fraud

The council is responsible for investigating all other suspicions of fraud, irregularity and misuse. You can report all other types of suspected fraud to the council.
