As part of the government’s initiative to help households with rising energy costs, they have announced a £150 energy rebate for certain households.
Who can get this £150 rebate?
Householders in band A to D properties will qualify for this rebate. If you do not know which band your property is in, you can find it on your latest Council Tax bill or use the Valuation Office website to check. FAQ section below for further information.
How to apply
Over 40,000 households who paid their Council Tax by direct debit in April this year have received the £150 energy rebate in their bank accounts. The remaining 30,000 plus eligible households have been sent a letter to enable them to claim the money. If you haven’t received the letter by Wednesday 15 June then please contact the council using contact the form below. For eligible households the money does not have to be paid back.
If you have received the letter you can now use the secure access code it contains to claim the £150 online. Please note the access code is case sensitive and must be entered exactly as it appears on your letter.
You will need to have the 11-digit Council Tax account number, from the top right-hand side of your Council Tax bill, along with your bank details (the sort code should be entered without spaces). This should be your Council Tax account number for the property you were living in on 1 April 2022.
If you enter any details incorrectly you will see the following error message.
Everyone eligible will receive a letter so there is no need to contact the council unless you haven’t received a letter by the end of June, or are having difficulty with the website or haven’t got your Council Tax reference number. Please use the energy rebate contact form.

Discretionary Council Tax Energy Rebate Scheme
Additional support is available to residents facing particular financial hardship due to the increasing cost of energy including gas and electricity. This support can be accessed through the Household Support Fund.
The council will also make additional energy rebate payments to identified vulnerable groups during July and August 2022.
No, you will not be asked to repay this money.
If you pay by direct debit and your April payment has been paid, the money will be sent via bank giro credit straight into your bank account.
Following Government recommendations we were advised to collect April direct debits before allocating the payment.
Yes, you will still get this providing the April direct debit is successfully paid and you are in band A-D.
Yes it will.
Some payments for people that pay by direct debit require extra checks to prevent fraud – for example when the name on the council tax bill does not match the name on the bank account. We are working hard to get these extra checks done and payments sent out.
This money is an Energy Rebate and intended to help people with energy bills, it is not a Council Tax rebate. Yes, you still need to pay your Council Tax. If you are entitled to this payment it will be paid into your bank account.
If you do not pay by direct debit a letter will be sent out to you week beginning 6 June 2022 providing information on how you can claim the £150 energy rebate.
This letter will contain a unique pin number that you will need to use to claim online on the council’s website. You will also need your 11 digit Council Tax reference number and your bank details.
If you have your Council Tax bill, you will find your 11 digit Council Tax account number (beginning with “12”) in the top right corner. If you do not have your Council Tax bill, a copy bill can be sent out to you. Please allow time for the bill to be printed and posted out to you.

It shows differently with different banks/building societies – it could say N. Lincs or bank giro credit.
Some banks are now sending out statements less frequently, so you may only receive them once every three months rather than once a month. If you are unsure if you have received your energy rebate, please contact your bank directly.
As long as you are paying Council Tax as of 1 April 2022 then yes you will get this. Providing you are in band A-D.

No, if you are entitled to it, you will receive it. As long as you are in band A-D.
Yes, as long as you are in Band A – D.
You will still be entitled to the payment but it would be taken off your Council Tax balance.
As long as you are the account holder and you were registered at your address on 1 April 2022.
No, you will only get one payment for the property you lived in as of 1 April 2022.
The person living in the property at 1 April 2022 gets the rebate not the landlord.
Once your first direct debit payment has been made you will hopefully get the rebate within two weeks.
Building society accounts that use eight digit account numbers and six digit sort codes are fine but savings accounts and passbook accounts cannot be used.
