North Lincolnshire Council is geared up ready to respond to the cold weather this weekend in our region.

Gritting crews are on standby and will be monitoring the weather round the clock and responding to any situations that might arise.

For updates on weather warnings over the weekend, visit the Met Office’s website.

If the weather is really bad, please drive carefully and follow this advice:

  • Ask yourself if your journey is really necessary; can it wait until the weather improves?
  • If you must travel, allow plenty of time and drive with care; respect other road users and stick to main roads where you can.
  • Accelerate and brake gently to avoid skidding.
  • Take extra care at junctions where road markings may not be visible.
  • If you get into trouble, especially in snow, stay with your vehicle until help arrives.
  • Make sure you and your vehicle are properly prepared.

For more details about gritting routes and how the council responds during bad weather, visit the winter service and gritting pages.

Don’t forget to look after your health, and keep warm and well during cold weather and freezing temperatures. Check elderly neighbours, friends and relatives are OK. Advice on keeping well can be found on our website.

During really cold temperatures, the council will ensure anyone rough sleeping is offered somewhere to stay overnight to keep them out of the cold.

Working with New Life Church in Scunthorpe, the council is providing overnight stays on Friday 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 January. The church will open at 7.30pm to provide a hot meal and shelter. Breakfast will be provided before the building is closed at 7.30am the next morning.
