Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“If every person in North Lincolnshire who can do something for a friend or neighbour or a vulnerable person in their community does, then we’ll get through this.

“People will be worried about what they can or can’t do, what they should or should not, but the little things are those which will make the biggest difference. Dropping a pint of milk off or telephoning someone and asking how they are.

“We know the coronavirus is the biggest threat we have faced as a country for many years, but this global challenge needs a local North Lincolnshire response, a local community response, in fact it needs a personal response. We must now all take on the responsibility to protect ourselves, our families and our neighbours and every person in every community of North Lincolnshire must play their part.

“The advice and guidance from the Prime Minister has been clear – we all need to make many personal sacrifices to slow the spread of the disease and protect the most vulnerable people in our community.

“The council and its many dedicated staff are working hard to ensure that the most vulnerable are secure – however our area needs residents to become part of the massive community response. If you can, call on them, shop for them and be a good neighbour.”

Denise Hyde, chief executive, North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Already as a council we have been reshaping what we do to ensure that all of our collective efforts are on keeping people safe and well, protecting the economy and enabling community resilience. Many things can be done online and we urge people to use these facilities. A great many colleagues are focussed to work with the people across our area to ensure the residents who need the most support absolutely receive it.

“I would like to give a huge thanks to our fantastic work force who are working with agility, dedication and commitment during these very difficult times – the council team is doing an amazing job keeping everything we do going in a new way while working hard to ensure the most vulnerable are secure.”
