North Lincolnshire Council’s 20/21 budget was approved at its Full Council meeting on Wednesday 26 February 2020. This includes spending plans to protect communities and enhance the environment.
Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire said at the meeting:
“We have a budget that is all inclusive, works for everyone in North Lincolnshire, and keeps our promise to keep council tax as low as possible whilst serving the needs of everyone that needs protection. It’s a budget that regenerates North Lincolnshire and makes employment and better paid jobs a priority.
“This budget will indicate our strongest possible policy set of environment measures to sustain North Lincolnshire for future generations.”
At the meeting, Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for environment and community wellbeing, said:
“We all have to do our part to make sure the world is a better place for future generations taking into account global climate change and we as a council are leading with initiatives such as reducing our carbon footprint, which it has done by 33 per cent over the last three years with an ambitious target to reduce 45 per cent by 2020. The ultimate aim is for a zero carbon footprint.
“I believe the council is approaching the problem with its ambitious but achievable environment policy to 2022. A number of initiatives have been carried out including installing LED streetlights, installing biomass boilers at leisure centres and creating the ‘Enhancing our Environment’ grant to enable communities to play their part.”
Cllr David Rose, cabinet member for children, families and culture, also spoke about achievements for children and young people, he said:
“I am proud of our achievements as a council and especially proud of our record and our commitment to children and young people, particularly the most vulnerable in our communities and this priority remains a key part of the budget.
“We will continue to target family support and additional funding to support children and young people with special educational needs.
“I am proud of the achievements of our schools and early years settings, and we are investing as a council in the early years.
“I am delighted to recognise the continuing success of the support for the Imagination Library here in North Lincolnshire and we will continue to invest £250,000 in the scheme for this year.”
