North Lincolnshire Council has invested £209,000 in building an extension at Manor Farm Children’s Centre, Scunthorpe, to house a pre-school and to expand the facilities on the site.
The relocation of the pre-school from Priory Lane Community Centre to Manor Farm will help meet the increasing demand for Government funded 30 hours free early year’s entitlement for working parents.
The project included an extension at the front of the children’s centre with an external pram storage area. Internal alterations have created space for the pre-school and children’s centre to work alongside each other. Outside, the area has been extended to provide additional space for outdoor play.
Work was completed by local contractor GS Kelsey.
Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council officially opened the extension. He said:
“Investing in early year’s provision for our children in North Lincolnshire is a real priority for our council. Not only does it help meet the increasing popularity of pre-school places, it also ensures our children get the best start in life.
“The Government funded 30 hours of free childcare is making a huge difference to working families and we are encouraging all those eligible families to take advantage of this. By continuing to prioritise our investment in children and education, we are able to expand the number quality places available at pre-schools and nurseries in North Lincolnshire.”
