Town and parish councils and community groups can apply for grant funding from North Lincolnshire Council to help them celebrate VE Day in May 2020.

VE, or Victory in Europe Day, celebrates the unconditional surrender of Nazi German forces to the Allies on 8 May 1945. In 2020, the early May bank holiday will move from Monday 4 May to Friday 8 May to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

The council has committed £14,000 from its Community Grant Fund to help towns and villages celebrate the anniversary, with anything from small community events to large celebrations.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Our Community Grant Fund supports community groups, sports clubs, town and parish councils and individuals across our area, and we’re proud to be able to allocate specific funding for these groups to celebrate VE Day in 2020.

“Groups will be able to apply for grant funding for their event until 28 February 2020.”
