Discover the secrets of pottery at 20-21

2 June 2016

Join local artist, Karen Raithby, as she demonstrates her pottery techniques at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre on Saturday 4 June 2016.

Karen Raithby is a Crowle-based artist and her Pentangle Pottery is one of the most popular collections in the gallery’s shop.

Karen uses earthenware or stoneware clay to create her hand-crafted, fantasy-themed pieces. New in to the 20-21 shop - and proving to be very popular with visitors – are her moon gazing hares. Each one seems to have its own personality and everyone is drawn to their own personal favourite!

Karen Raithby said, “I love every aspect of the ceramic process; from being able to create freely with clay, to the technical details of glazing and firing. The combination of art and science is perfect for me.”

Karen will be demonstrating her pottery techniques at a Meet the Maker session in the shop at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 4 June 2016. She added, “Working with others in workshops, schools and at other places and giving them the opportunity to use and enjoy the clay is fantastic to see and great fun too!”

Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing at North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“The shop at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre stocks quirky and original one-off pieces from over 60 British artists, with around a quarter of these being from Lincolnshire. Since the shop reopened after the refurbishment in October last year, the sales have been very promising and it is fantastic to see the work of local artists and British talents supported in this way.

“Come along to the gallery shop on 4 June and discover the creative process behind Karen’s fantastic pieces. Feel free to ask Karen questions; I know she will be keen to spread her passion for pottery!”
