Community Governance leaflets redistributed to Barton residents

21 June 2017

Due to issues with Royal Mail, North Lincolnshire Council is redistributing the community governance consultation leaflets to Barton residents.

The council tasked Royal Mail with delivering the leaflets in March to thousands of residents – asking for their views on future community governance in their area.

It has become apparent that the majority of Barton residents did not receive their consultation leaflet.

The Community Governance Review looks at the electoral arrangements of North Lincolnshire’s eight town council areas; Barton, Bottesford, Brigg, Broughton, Crowle and Ealand, Epworth, Kirton-in-Lindsey, and Winterton.

The focus of the review is based on local town council’s electoral arrangements, for example the ordinary year of election, council size, the number of councillors to be elected and parish warding.

This is the first time a review on electoral arrangements for all eight town councils is being undertaken.

Cllr David Robinson, Chair of North Lincolnshire Council’s Governance and Standards Scrutiny Panel, said:

“We apologise on behalf of Royal Mail for this blip and hope that residents take a couple of minutes to complete the short survey and return it to us using the freepost address provided by Friday 7 July.

“Canvassers are going out this weekend delivering the leaflets to ensure those who missed out last time don’t miss out again.

“There may be a slight cross-over which means some residents who previously received a copy, may receive one again. If this is the case and you have already completed the survey, please ignore.

“We want to ensure we give everyone the opportunity to have their say on this important issue.

“The consultation will shape the future of town councils and it is the ideal opportunity for residents to be part of this change.”

To coincide with the redistribution of the leaflets in Barton, the council will be holding another community engagement event at Barton Assembly Rooms on Tuesday 27 June from 4pm to 7pm. Residents are invited to drop in to the event and ask our officers any questions they may have about the review and have their say.
