Drainage and sewage

On 1 October 2011 responsibility for all private sewers and lateral drains, which connect to the public sewer system transferred to the statutory water and sewerage companies.

The companies that serve North Lincolnshire are:

If a drain is blocked – pipe work serving a single property – it is the responsibility of the owner / occupier to arrange clearance at their own cost.

If the public sewer is blocked it is the responsibility of the water and sewerage companies.

North Lincolnshire Council does not:

  • Own any drainage pipe work other than in respect of being a landlord

  • Provide a drain cleaning service

North Lincolnshire Council does:

  • Offer free advice on drainage problems in partnership with landlords and the water and sewerage companies

  • Provide a charged service using CCTV equipment to determine faults with drains serving a single property, investigate recurring drainage problems and identify the layout of drainage systems using dye-testing. There is a charge for this

Charges: drainage surveys, CCTV and dye tracing.
