We were delighted to receive an Arts Council England grant in 2015, which has allowed us to carry out some refurbishment work to our galleries and visitor areas.
In February 2016 we re-opened our brand new Post-War Gallery which features a 1950s style kitchen, 1960s living room and 1970s collections items. Discover the lifestyle of these decades.
You can also take part in activities and games, such as dressing up, kitchen sensory board and object handling.
Improvements to reception and the gift shop offer a fresh and welcoming look. It includes a larger range of pocket money items, merchandise and books.
The new Courtyard Tearoom offers a brand new snack and lunch menu and takeout service.
Dudley's Den, our under fives room now offers a new experience for younger children and families.
The sea themed activities will allow babies and young children to explore textures, colours and sounds. For older children they can explore the world of archaeology by taking part in a brand new dig activity. Activities and sessions for children under five take place in this room most days.
In the summer of 2017 we finally completed our refurbishment project by opening our brand new Jurassic Sea and Steel Town galleries. We are delighted with the new gallery areas and we have received some wonderful feedback from many visitors so far.
