West Halton - Whitton Road walking route

West Halton - Whitton Road walking route

Two and a half miles.

At St Ethelreada’s Church, Church Side, West Halton. Take the A1077 from Scunthorpe past Winterton and taking the second left down the hill and the first right into the village. Churchside is the first road on the right, immediately after the church.

1. Enter the churchyard from the main street, following the path around the church and back into Churchside, turning right.

2. At the junction with West Street, turn left along a waymarked path with a school field on your left.

3. At the main road turn right, cross Winteringham Lane and head up Whitton Road.

4. Just after a copse on the right, turn right along a track passing a large modern barn on your left and walking alongside a drain on the right.

5. At a waymarked sign turn immediately right, keeping another deep drain on your left.

6. Turn right onto the metalled Winteringham Lane and follow this to a T junction, passing Cross Street and Short Lane on the left.

7. Turn left onto the main street.

8. Take the next road left back into Churchside.

Fairly level. An initial rise up Whitton Road and then a slight descent. Whitton Road is the road to Whitton only, there are no pavements but there are good verges to step onto when needed.

The tracks from point four to point six are wide but can get wet and muddy in places after rain. Winteringham Lane ends at point six so it is quiet and there are pavements to follow back to Churchside.

Allow between an hour and an hour and a half to complete the walk a leisurely pace.
