The blue badge scheme allows people with severe mobility problems to park close to places they are visiting. Blue badges can be used throughout the UK and in some European countries.
The badge must be displayed on the car's dashboard when in use.
Badge holders can:
- Park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours, except where there is a ban on loading or unloading
- Park for free in any of the council's car parks providing they park in a car bay and display a current badge
- Park for free and for as long as they need to at on-street parking meters and pay and display machines, unless there is a traffic sign showing a time limit for blue badge holders. Where there is a time limit, the special blue parking disc must also be displayed showing the time of arrival.
You can apply for a Blue Badge online at Directgov. Please note that when you apply for a renewal badge you will need to do this at least six weeks before the current badge expiry date.
If you feel that you need any other support please complete our assessment of care needs for people with physical disabilities.
