Public transport

One of the key aims for North Lincolnshire Council is for "better travel choice" within North Lincolnshire. We have a commitment to:

  • help reduce congestion by making alternative modes of transport to the car more attractive;
  • help towards reducing pollution;
  • working with the Road Safety Partnership to provide safer streets.

The council and the bus operators are part of a Quality Partnership. Within this partnership the council has certain responsibilities. These are:

  • Providing bus timetable information for all operators in leaflet form, at stop displays and via the Traveline website.
  • The provision of bus infrastructure, such as, stops, shelters and kerbs.
  • Helping bus punctuality by providing bus lanes and bus priority measures.
  • Subsidise bus services that would not operate commercially, particularly in rural areas where it is harder for private operators to make a profit.

However, the council cannot dictate:

  • the routes the bus services follow
  • the frequency of commercial services
  • fares charged

The council is also responsible for the issue of concessionary fare passes for those over 60 or with a qualifying disability.
