Baysgarth Park (Brigg Road, Barton upon Humber)
Baysgarth Park in Barton Upon Humber is a thirty acre English Parkland Leisure Park. It dates back to Victorian times providing a picturesque setting for your leisure pursuits. The park has something for all the family with a children’s playground, orienteering course, hard tennis courts, football pitches and a six rink bowling green. Another feature of the park is Baysgarth Museum which illustrates the history, archaeology, flora and fauna of the district.
Central Park (Kingsway, Scunthorpe)
Central Park is the largest park in Scunthorpe and features beautiful ornamental gardens and a fountain. A large children’s playground with a paddling pool and model boating lake, are popular with children of all ages in the summer months. In addition there is a large sports area with football pitches, a small woodland, trim trail and an orienteering course. Beautiful and extensive murals have been designed and painted in the park which feature an idyllic park landscape. For families who travel by car to the park there is free public car park.
Humber Bridge Viewing Area (Waterside Road, Barton upon Humber)
The Humber Bridge viewing area on the banks of the Humber Estuary offers excellent views of the Humber Bridge and Hull on the north shore. Your children can play in the children’s play ground, enjoy a family picnic and then stroll around the lake. There are a number of small ponds where children can fish and where schools regularly arrange pond dipping projects. The ponds were created by the extraction of clay which is used by the local tile making industry. The park offers ample car parking and toilet facilities including provision for people with disabilities. For individuals who prefer a longer walk, the ‘Viking Way’ starts from the old boat house which is open as an information centre during the summer months. There is also a foot path along the banks of the Humber where you can view the tile works.
Silica Park (Scotter Road, Scunthorpe)
Silica Park is an informal country park, based on the site of a former sand workings. Visitors can enjoy a walk through the park, take the family for a picnic or angling on the lake. A group of local residents, ‘Friends of Silica Park' are taking an active interest in the management and improvement of the park, ensuring its conservation and future development.
Manor Park (Burringham Road, Scunthorpe)
Manor Park is a 33 acre expanse of grassland resting on the hillside of Scunthorpe. The open grassland is suitable for a number of children’s ball games and is particularly popular for tobogganing in the winter months. There is also a large children’s play area with slides, swings, climbing frames and other play equipment. Manor Park hosts the annual Scunthorpe Fair, held in the second week of Easter.
Ridge Walk (Scunthorpe)
Ridge Walk is a footpath linking Hempdykes in the north of Scunthorpe to Riddings in the south. Commencing at Hempdykes with its excellent views across the Trent Valley, the path enters a small wood, the Cliff Plantation. Your journey takes you through Kingsway Gardens and Brumby Wood. Past one of Scunthorpe’s tower blocks Langland House and into Manor Park. Wander through the 33 acres of grass park land and leave the park near the children’s playground, the final part of this three mile walk takes you directly to Greenacres park in Bottesford.
Rowland Road Park (Rowland Road, Scunthorpe)
Close to the centre of Scunthorpe in the Frodingham area is Rowland Road Park. You can stroll through the flower gardens, play tennis on one of the three hard tennis courts or play any number of ball games on the playing field.
You can watch your children play in the well equipped children’s play area.
Sheffield Park (Ferry Road, Scunthorpe)
Situated in the Crosby area of Scunthorpe, Sheffield Park has a large fenced children and toddlers play area with slides, climbing frames and swings. In the toddlers play area there are also a number of picnic tables. A short walk down a tree lined path leads to six hard surface tennis courts, a flat bowling green and changing accommodation.
Woodbine Park (Southview/ Preston Drive, Brigg)
Woodbine Park is a six acre site situated next to Brigg Recreation Ground and can be accessed off Southview Avenue, Preston Drive or directly from the recreation ground. There are areas for informal games which includes a kickabout football pitch, an open sided shelter and a large selection of children's play equipment fitted on safer surfacing.
