The popular S-Con Manga event is back with a vengeance on 1 April at North Lincolnshire Library in Scunthorpe. Award winning Manga artist Sonia Leong and well known Japanese artist Akemi Solloway, to name a few, will grace this spectacular event. Tickets are on sale now.
Last year local Manga fans were so disappointed to hear that North Lincolnshire Library in Scunthorpe was hosting its last Tokyopop ReCon event due to the demise of the company.
But North Lincolnshire Council has come to the rescue and formed a small action group to organise a brand new independent event packed with many more activities, special guests, competitions and out of town specialist retailers.
The new event S-Con, which is a true joint venture between local Manga fans and the library is to be held on Sunday 1 April 2012. It has a much stronger focus on Japanese art and culture.
Manga which literally means ‘whimsical pictures’, has a huge worldwide following for the Japanese style comics that are traditionally read from right to left.
Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for corporate and community services at North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“This spectacular event is expected to get booked up quickly, so ensure you get your ticket early. And in doing so, you save money.
“It is a real coo to attract Sonia Leong, Akemi Solloway and many others to the event and share their talent and enthusiasm.
“The comics and cartoons must be seen. They have a huge cult following around the world, and not surprisingly as they really are fantastic.
“I’m delighted that the council is hosting this major event here in Scunthorpe.”
Veronica Robinson, event organiser, North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“It’s great news that the S-Con Manga event will go ahead this year and I’m really excited. We have a packed programme and some wonderful artists who have worked with the stars and won awards for their work.
“A lot of preparation has gone into making this event one to remember!”
S-Con is proud to welcome award winning Manga artist Sonia Leong.
Sonia has won a number of awards including Tokyopop's UK Rising Stars of Manga Competition (2005/06) and NEO Magazine's 2005 Manga competition. Her art has featured in the British film Popcorn and in the hit sitcom The IT Crowd.
