Sporting talent to benefit from council cash

money

North Lincolnshire Council is helping young sporting talent make a splash in the world of sailing and chop their way into a world karate championship with its latest round of community grants.

A total of £2,100 is set to be dished out in the latest round of funding to five top young sportspeople from our area.A further £1,000 is set to be awarded to SportsAid, a charity that supports the next generation of British sporting talent.

Those set to benefit from the money include:

  • Emma Labourne from North Lincolnshire and Humberside Sailing Club has been reselected to stay with the Royal Yachting Association National Junior Squad. Emma is set to receive £500 to help with travel and accommodation costs and free off-peak access to council-run leisure centres
  • Sarah Labourne from North Lincolnshire and Humberside Sailing Club has been selected to join the Royal Yachting Association National Junior Squad. Sarah is set to receive £500 to help with travel and accommodation costs and free off-peak access to council-run leisure centres
  • Max Bushell from North Lincolnshire and Humberside Sailing Club has been selected to join the Royal Yachting Association National Transition Windsurfing Training Squad. Max is set to receive £500 to help with travel and accommodation costs and free off-peak access to council-run leisure centre
  • Gareth Dunkerley from Bujin Karate at The Pods in Scunthorpe has been selected to the GB Karate Team at World University Championships in Slovakia in July 2012. Gareth is set to benefit from £500 to help with travel and accommodation costs and free off-peak access to council-run leisure centres
  • Sarah Burfield, from Scunthorpe, has been selected as a volunteer Games Maker at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Sarah is set to benefit from £100 towards travel and accommodation costs for this unique opportunity

There are three strands to the council’s new Community Grant Fund: Grants to Individuals, Community Revenue Grants and Community Capital Grants.

A total of £500,000 has been made available for the 2012/13 financial year and so far individuals and community groups have been awarded £22,711.30. These latest grants will bring the total awarded to £25,811.30.

Deadlines for grant applications are as follows:

  • 20 July 2012 for consideration by cabinet members in September 2012
  • 23 November 2012 for consideration by cabinet members in January 2013
