Resurfacing work begins to maintain North Lincolnshire’s roads

roadworks
From Monday 18 June 2012, North Lincolnshire council starts this year’s surface dressing programme on roads across North Lincolnshire.

The council is asking people to be patient while work takes place.

The work is necessary to ensure the roads are well maintained and safe.

Work starts in on the A161 Graizelound to Westwoodside for one day.  The whole programme of work will finish around 10 July from Winterton to South Ferriby.

What you can do to help:

  • Ensure vehicles are not left on roads that will be treated.

  • Avoid deliveries and inviting visitors during the proposed work times.  Please contact the council if you have any difficulties with this by phoning 01724 297000

  • Keep your speed low on recently treated roads

  • Never overtake on newly treated roads.

Full details about the work and timetable available at www.northlincs.gov.uk/transport-and-streets/roads/surfacedressing/

Cllr Nigel Sherwood, cabinet member for Highways and Neighbourhood at North Lincolnshire council, said:

“The work is essential to enable us to keep the roads properly maintained and safe.

“We always do our best to keep disruption to the minimum and would urge people to be patient and allow a little extra time for their journeys.

”The work is weather dependant and continued rain may affect the timing of the work, so please keep checking our website for details.”

Surface dressing is the application of hot bitumen and stone chippings onto a road surface. It is very widely used and is a low cost effective method of highway maintenance. Bitumen is sprayed onto the road and one or more layers of stone chippings applied. As the bitumen sets, chippings stick to the road surface. A roller is used to help make the chippings stick to the bitumen.
