Residents gear up for improvements to bin and box collections

recycling

From Monday 5 November 2012, residents bin and box collections are set to be improved.

From Wednesday 3 October, everyone will receive an information pack explaining how their collections could be affected.

In recent years, recycling collections have been rolled out to more properties and there have been significant new housing developments that have created unbalanced collections rounds.

The council needs to rebalance the workload to maintain an efficient service in terms of fuel consumption and environmental impact.

The changes won’t be the same for everyone and for some, there will be no change.

The range of changes that could affect you are:

  • Your collection day may change
  • Your collection week may change – the waste and recycling will be collected on opposite weeks to the current schedules
  • Your collection time could change – the wheeled bins will still be collected from 7am and boxes from 8.30am. This means the crew may get to a street earlier or later than they previously did.
  • Your box collection day could change – some properties currently have their boxes collected on a different day. With the changes you will get your boxes collected on the same day as your general waste bin.

The materials and way they are collected will remain the same.

The Customer Helpline on 01724 297000 will be able to answer any questions from residents.  Also look on our website, www.northlincs.gov.uk/environment/recycling, where you will find full details and frequently asked questions and answers.  You can also check your collection dates there.

Cllr Nigel Sherwood, cabinet member for highways and neighbourhoods at North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Reviewing our collection rounds will improve efficiency and ensure an excellent service is maintained.  This review may mean a change to the day or week your containers are collected.

“All will be explained in your information pack and you will receive a new calendar sticker letting you know when your collection days are.  It will also include a leaflet detailing what you can and cannot put in your containers, and a guide to the network of household recycling centres.

“If you haven’t received your information pack by 12 October, please ring our Customer Helpline on 01724 297000."
