New Park opens in Scunthorpe

playground
The Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Cllr Keith Vickers, will open a new park on Somervell Road in Scunthorpe on Wednesday 25 April at 3pm.

The former Grange Lane Horticultural nursery site was surplus to requirements and part of the adjacent allotment site was vacant.

In 2008, planning permission was granted to allow residential development on the vacant allotments, on the condition that the nursery was used for open space.

The park comprises:

  • Picnic table

  • Seating

  • BMX cycle track

  • Youth shelter

  • Football area

  • Goal arena

  • Multi play climber

  • Multi play area for toddlers

  • Equipment includes rocker sea saw, overhead rotator, zip wire, swings, basket swing, swing surfer, and lots more.

The council designed the park and will maintain it.

All existing allotment tenants remain.  This facility will be improved as a condition of the sale of the housing development.

The four acres of housing development land has been up for sale since 2010.  There has been some interest, though no acceptable offers have been received.  Anyone interested should contact Paul Taylor on 01724 297477.

Cllr Keith Vickers, Mayor of North Lincolnshire, said:

“The new park makes fantastic use of this huge outdoor space and will compliment the many other parks in North Lincolnshire.

“The play equipment is second to none.  There is something for everyone from toddlers to teenagers and adults can use it too.  And with the picnic tables and seating, it provides a great day out for families.

“This is a fantastic park for all to use and enjoy.”
