There are a number of other organisations that are involved in the planning process.

These have a variety of functions and cover a wide range of planning activities.

Department for Communities and Local Government - Government department responsible for planning system in England. Produces national planning policy in the form of Planning Policy Guidance notes (PPGs)/Planning Policy Statements (PPSs), circulars, ministerial statements and good practice guidance.

Local Government Yorkshire and Humber - The regional planning body. Responsible for preparing the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS).

Royal Town Planning Institute - The professional body responsible for town and country planning in the UK.

Planning Portal - Is the first point of call for anyone who wants to find out about the planning system in England and Wales. It is aimed at everyone, from central government and councils to planning professionals and the layperson. Each of the seven sections of the Planning Portal offers information on a different aspect of the planning system. You can also specify a location on the Planning Portal. This allows you to view certain information specifically designed for your area as well as giving you local contacts, which you can use to gain further information.

Planning Inspectorate - Government agency, which processes planning and enforcement appeals and holds inquiries into local development plans. It also deals with a wide variety of other planning related casework including listed building consent appeals, advertisement appeals, and reporting on planning applications called in for decision by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. In addition we process applications for awards of costs, which may arise, from any of these.
