Domestic Smoke Control

North Lincolnshire Council has areas which are declared as smoke control areas with regard to domestic dwellings. A map of the designated areas is available to download.

It is an offence to produce smoke from a domestic chimney of a building, furnace or fixed boiler if located in a smoke control area.

It is also an offence to acquire "unauthorised fuel" for use within a smoke control area unless it is used in an "exempt" appliance ("exempted" from the controls which generally apply in the smoke control area). The current maximum level of fine is £1,000 for each offence.

Details of fuel types are available to download.

Details of exempt appliances are available to download.

If you would like to report domestic smoke in a controlled area please contact us on 01724 297000 or use our online reporting form.
