Course information

Subject details 

This course will introduce you to a wide range of art/craft techniques that can be effectively used to enhance, decorate and recycle everyday items.  

Including: 

  • painting with enamel paint

  • painting with acrylic paint

  • serviette craft 

During the course the learner will be shown how to: 

  • use enamel paint techniques on wooden items - small items of furniture, for example, small tables/chairs, cabinets (items will need to be pre painted prior to the course) metal items, buckets, cans etc;

  • use acrylic paint techniques to create bronzed statues from unpainted garden ornaments/statues;

  • use serviette craft techniques and acrylic paint to create fabulous decorated patio pots and decorated wooden items – small items such as picture frames, wooden trays, boxes etc (unpainted);

  • develop design skills; and

  • create potential saleable items, gifts or to enhance your own home.

You are able to choose the craft option and individual items that they wish to create, paint and decorate. 

Length of course, rate of work and size of project will dictate how many of the options will be able to be covered.

The tutor will then contact you and provide individual guidance on preparation of items and materials needed. 

Methods of assessment 

The course tutor will help you to develop an individual learning plan so that they are aware of their personal progress on the course. The course tutor will work one on one with you and provide demonstration, guidance and feedback relating to progress and achievement. Photographs of work will be used to record progress and achievement  

Content and learning outcomes 

  • explore materials, equipment, techniques

  • explore and use design skills

  • use chosen craft techniques effectively to produce an individual creative item

  • maintain a safe working environment 

Requirements for first session 

Items that you wish to decorate, for example: 

  • pre painted small furniture item - pre-painted in light colour paint for use with serviette craft, pre-painted in any colour for enamel painting

  • pre painted metal buckets cans etc

  • large unpainted plant pots (not plastic)

  • garden ornaments/statue unpainted

  • plain wood - frame, boxes, tray etc

  • any brushes/rags/appropriate paint

Some materials will be available for learners to use at cost. For example, paints range of serviette designs to decorate items. 

Please confirm that the class is running before buying any equipment.
