Domestic abuse

Nationally, one in four women and one in six men will suffer domestic abuse at some stage in their lives. People experience domestic abuse regardless of their social group, class, age, race, disability or sexuality. Victims of domestic abuse are usually women, but this is not always the case. The hidden victim is the child.

In North Lincolnshire, the police have dealt with an increasing number of domestic abuse incidents.

As awareness of the issue grows, a greater understanding of the difficulties and challenges faced daily by the victims is being achieved. This is helped by awareness raising events, training and work in schools.

It is essential that domestic abuse is reported. We must not accept a culture that condones domestic abuse. Violence and abuse is no more acceptable behind closed doors than it is in public.
