The EYFS Education Team is based within The Child Development Centre (CDC) located in St Nicholas House in Scunthorpe. It is a Health Authority provision. The CAMHS team and many of the paediatric therapy services are based here. Some of the Consultant Paediatricians hold their outpatient clinics in the building.
The EYFS Education Team work with pre-school children with significant special educational needs from two years old. Staff also support the multi-disciplinary (MDT) assessments which lead from CDC allocation meetings.
The services work together to assess the needs of and provide input for young children with a wide range of special needs.
The Consultant Paediatrician refers pre-school children with difficulties for the MDT assessment. Other professionals working with young children make referrals to the therapists and education team.
Libby Brankin (Senior Lead Teacher LDD) and Carol Turpin (Early Years Specialist Practitioner) run the education groups and are employed by North Lincolnshire Council.
Weekly two-hour sessions in the playroom may be offered to a child who has been referred to the education team.
The assessment and developmental curriculum is based around play activities.
Support and advice is also offered to early years settings. Transitional support is offered to mainstream schools in North Lincolnshire that admit children who have attended the education groups.
Visits to observe education team groups from early years practitioners and other relevant professionals are welcomed.
The education team staff visit early years settings to offer support. This may include the writing and reviewing of Individual Education Plan (IEP) targets for children at Early Years Action Plus and advice and training for staff teams and individuals. Advice is given relating to the use of appropriate strategies and resources.
Parents and carers are the key people in the life of their child and are included in all discussions and planning for next steps.
