Did you know that when you go and see your favourite rock band at the local pub that you are watching art? Or when you are knitting at home that you are taking part in the arts?

Art encompasses a very broad range of activities and events.

You may participate in the arts by:

  • Dancing
  • Singing
  • Playing an instrument
  • Writing music
  • Making a film or video
  • Performing in a play
  • Painting
  • Printmaking
  • Making sculpture
  • Taking photographs
  • Using a computer to create a picture or animation
  • Crocheting
  • Knitting
  • Embroidering
  • Making ceramics
  • Wood crafts such as turning, carving or making furniture
  • Writing stories, plays or poetry
  • Taking part in a carnival or festival.

Or you may attend an art event, by visiting:

  • An exhibition of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, video, sculpture or craft
  • A performance of music, drama, opera, dance, book reading or pantomime
  • A festival, carnival or street art
  • Being a member of a book club.

We want to raise the profile of the range of arts that you can take part in, in North Lincolnshire.

'This is art' has been developed to identify and promote arts events throughout North Lincolnshire. It should be used to highlight all types of arts events, especially those not traditionally thought of as belonging to 'the arts' such as reading groups or music gigs.

Our aim is to get the 'this is art' brand applied to posters, flyers, leaflets, adverts and websites for all the arts events that are taking place within North Lincolnshire.

If you are involved in organising an arts event download the 'this is art' logo and a quick guide on how to use the brand effectively.
