The North Lincolnshire Local Plan was adopted in May 2003 and provides guidance for development across the whole of the area. Its aim is:
"To improve and enhance the environment of North Lincolnshire by enabling development to be undertaken in the most economically, socially and environmentally sustainable way."
The plan is the key consideration in determining planning applications.
The Local Plan is made up of two documents:
- The written statement, which sets out the written text and includes the policies and proposals
- A second plans document, which contains all the relevant plans, from the wider proposals map to inset plans for individual villages.
The Local Plan is also supported by a number of Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) notes, which help to elaborate a number of the policies set out in the plan.

Local Plan update - September 2007
Following the commencement of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 in September 2004, the Local Plan policies were saved for an initial period of three years (up to September 2007). As part of this process, the council were required to draw up a list of those policies to be saved beyond 2007 and submitted it to the Secretary of State for consideration. This took place in April 2007.
The Secretary of State issued a direction in September 2007 setting out which policies would continued to be "saved" beyond that date. As a result those "saved" Local Plan policies will continue to form the basis on which planning decisions are made until they are replaced by new policies in the Local Development Framework. This direction took effect on 27 September 2007.
The Secretary of State's direction, decision letter together with a list of those policies which have been deleted from the Local Plan can be viewed using the link on the right had side of the page. These should be read in conjunction with the Local Plan.
