Traffic signs, road markings and road studs are an important road safety feature on the public highway. They also help to move people and goods efficiently through the area. The policy below will benefit local residents and visitors to North Lincolnshire by:
- Helping fulfil our aim of providing safer roads and better routes
- Ensuring a structured and consistent approach for providing clear and effective traffic signs and road markings on the public highway. Setting minimum standards of materials and complying with national regulations will ensure that schemes are well designed. Setting response times for dealing with defects relating to old or damaged traffic signs, road markings and studs will ensure that the public highway is well maintained.
- Helping limit illegal and unauthorised signing on the public highway.
- Providing an excellent point of reference for the public to understand where the different types of signs are used and why. It can also be an easy reference point if anyone feels a sign or road markings are necessary in their community.
The council's Traffic team provides new traffic signs and road markings on the public highway. The Highway Maintentance team is responsible for inspecting and renewing existing or damaged signs, road markings and road studs.
The traffic signs, road marking and roads studs policy is a very large document. So we have separated it into more manageable sections. Please refer to the contents page included with section one to find out which section is relevant to you.
