Street lighting

The council is responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of street lights within North Lincolnshire.

North Lincolnshire has approximately 22,800 lighting columns and 2,300 illuminated signs and bollards.

How do I report a problem?

To report problems with street lights, illuminated signs and bollards, please use the online form. If you are reporting problems please provide relevant contact details where possible.

Alternatively you can call 01724 298517 during normal working hours (9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, 9am to 4.30pm Friday).

Only in an emergency, outside of normal office hours, contact 01724 276444.

An emergency can be classed as:

  • three or more columns in a row out
  • column damaged, cover plate missing, wires exposed
  • column damaged by a road traffic accident
  • lantern head hanging off
  • a traffic bollard knocked down or missing

The street light outside my house is out/is faulty

Please use the online form to let us know - the more information the better (things such as: light out altogether, going on/off, burning all day, intermittent). Include the number of the column - if you cannot see this then please state the exact location or adjacent house number.

How long will it take to repair?

Usually, outages are attended by North Lincolnshire Council and repaired, if possible, within five working days.

If there is a problem with the electricity cable feeding the column, notification is sent to the utility company (YEDL). YEDL will aim to repair all network faults within 30 working days of receiving a report.

The metal plate at the base of the column has been removed, how soon will you attend?

We will aim to attend within two hours.

The lamp column outside my house is leaning or damaged.

An inspector will come out to assess the damage and then determine how urgent the job is.

If the column has been hit by a vehicle and is leaning dangerously, or has collapsed, we will aim to attend within two hours of being advised.

Can the lighting in my street be improved?

All changes including improvement requests will be considered and prioritised accordingly.

We take into account the age and condition of the existing installation along with the light output. However, all considerations are budget led and the demand for lighting improvements substantially out-weighs available funding. Please contact us for more information by calling 01724 298517 or email us streetlighting@northlincs.gov.uk.
