Safety (speed) camera scheme
In April 2003, the Humberside Safety Camera Partnership was created. Its aim is to reduce the number of speed related accidents.
The partners include North Lincolnshire Council, Hull City Council, North East Lincolnshire Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humberside Magistrates' Courts Committee, Humberside Police and the Highways Agency.
The scheme is targeted at certain key areas where excessive and inappropriate speed is known to be the cause of accidents. It is not just to catch speeders, nor to raise money.
It is a driver's choice what speed they travel. The purpose of the safety cameras, along with the speed seminars and publicity campaigns, is to encourage drivers to recognise the dangers of speed, and therefore slow down.
Mobile cameras will be used on a regular basis at 65 sites throughout the Humberside police area. The 21 sites in North Lincolnshire are:
- M180 west of River Trent
- Ashby - Grange Lane South
- Ashby - Messingham Road
