Companion’s pass

If you are unable to use public transport on your own because of disability, you may be able to take a companion with you to help you on your journey. A companion will usually be a spouse, parent, child or other close relative. Paid carers do not qualify as companions.

The disabled person’s pass will show a “+C” symbol in the top right hand corner. The companion may travel free on local buses within North Lincolnshire and journeys which start in North Lincolnshire and end elsewhere. The companion may also travel back free from places in North East Lincolnshire, Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire and South Yorkshire.

Companions may buy half fare return tickets for local rail journeys or single tickets at one-third off.

Please note that we do not provide a companion’s entitlement for disabled children under 12 years of age and free travel is not available from Lincolnshire.

How can I apply to have a companion entitlement added to my pass?

Ring the council on 01724 297460 and ask for an application form. Get the form verified by your doctor and take it to Scunthorpe Shopmobility or one of the local links. (See “How to apply”).

If you have a pass already, send your completed form to the council and we will send you a new pass which includes the companion symbol

If you need any further information please call North Lincolnshire Council's Public Transport team on 01724 297460 or email public.transport@northlincs.gov.uk.
