Pot holes

A pot hole is where the surface of the road has been eroded and a hollow has formed. The council is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the highway.

The severity of the pot hole and criteria for attention is determined by the risk it poses to road users. This is difficult to judge since all pot holes present some risk. The factors to be taken into account include size and depth of pot hole; traffic type, speed and volume; road alignment and visibility and also the position in relation to road width.

Pot holes can also appear on pavements/footways.
