Car park closed temporarily whilst work continues on the new £15m health centre

Allanby Street car park in Scunthorpe is closed to allow work to continue on building a brand new £15m intergrated health and social care centre.

The centre is a joint initiative between North Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust and North Lincolnshire Council.

It will provide a range of health and social care services from the purpose built facility. Services will include traditional GP surgeries, dentist, minor surgery, a walk-in service and community services such as social care, speech and language therapy, podiatry, physiotherapy and a pharmacy.

Programme of work:

  • Work started on the 24 May when around half of the car park spaces (81) were available
  • Between 12 July and 30 September, the whole car park will close
  • The new 74-space car park will open on 1 October
  • Summer 2011 - the centre will be completed

Alternative long-stay car parking will be available in the nearby Deyne Avenue and Dunstall Street car parks. Alternative short-stay parking will be available in West Street and Mary Street car parks.

The new centre will boast excellent credentials. Twenty-two per cent of its energy requirements will come from on-site renewable sources such as ground and air source heat pumps and solar water heaters. It will maximise natural ventilation using green rated building materials and rainwater harvesting.

Civil parking enforcement

From March 2010, the council has been responsible for dealing with vehicles illegally parked on roads. This was previously carried out by Humberside Police.

Parking restrictions are the same, but now just one organisation (the council) enforces all parking contraventions.

All income from penalty charge notices (parking fines) is used to cover the cost of the service, including maintaining signs and lines.

Any surplus is used to improve roads, car parks and public transport.

Civil enforcement officers have replaced traffic wardens and have undergone nationally approved training.
