Help for people with hearing loss
Hearing loss or impairment is defined in three ways:
- Deaf without speech
- Deaf with speech
- Hard of hearing.
Initially you should contact your local Care Management team, who will make a referral on your behalf to specialist workers in the Occupational Therapy and Sensory Impairment Service. They will undertake your registration if you fall into the first two definitions. They do not normally register you if you are hard of hearing because it does not bring you any real benefits. The benefits of registration for people who are deaf with or without speech are:
- Travel concessions both local and national
- Text users tebate
- Type talk.
Information on other services available can be accessed via the Adult Social Care Directory.
