Here is how Adult Social Services can help when you need support to live your life.
Your starting point is to ring our main contact number 01724 297979 where our advisers will offer you advice, help and information according to your needs. They may put you in touch with local organisations who will be able to provide you with the support or advice you need to manage your life. This might be all you need from us.
What happens if I do need further help from Adult Social Services?
If you find yourself having had a fall, accident or illness, you could have possibly had a stay in hospital and now feel unable to manage your life as you used to. You might experience problems due to a change in the help that a family carer can offer or the death of a partner may mean you have to manage on your own for the first time, which has meant a change in your personal circumstances. We can help you to regain your independence and confidence to get on with your life. It could mean making changes to your home making it easier to get around, help to manage money, or help in the short term to recover from an illness or accident. We call this short- term service Rehabilitation and Reablement . This may be all you need to get you on your feet again.
But I may find that I still cannot manage to cope with daily living needs, even with the help of family or friends. What if that’s the case?
We have a new method of providing support to you, it is called Self Directed Support this puts you back in control of your life to help you live independently. Self Directed Support aims to give you much more control over the support you receive and the way in which you receive it. The support available will be much more flexible and responsive to your individual needs to enable you to live life the way you wish. You will receive a sum of money form the council to pay for your support which is called a “Personal Budget”
We have put together a list of frequently asked questions that might help you to understand the process of managing your Personal Budget.
