Tenancy Support team
The Tenancy Support team is part of the Young People’s Accommodation team. Tenancy support is for care leavers aged 18 and above.
The team’s work includes:
- Working in partnership with care leavers to provide support in maintaining their tenancy
- Developing support packages that include all aspects of living independently. This may include budgeting, carrying out minor repairs, keeping your home safe, accessing education and health services
- Offering support to use community services and professionals
- Assist in the claiming of benefits and ensuring appropriate entitlement is received
- Monitor any issues relating to property maintenance and advise where necessary.
The Tenancy Support team liases closely with the accommodation officer, employability officer and welfare rights officer in relation to housing needs, benefit issues and employment, education and training.
Accessing the service
- All referrals for young people will be treated equally and fairly. If you are living independently or planning to in the near future your referral will be accepted. There are no restrictions on access to the service for care leavers
- Referrals can only be made through the Leaving Care team. This can take place three months before your 18th birthday. A brief outline of your needs and a risk assessment will to be attached to the referral.
What happens next?
- When you are approaching 18, your worker will talk to you about support from this service. Please talk to them about the issues you would like to include in the referral
- An assessment of need will be completed, then a support plan will be written in agreement with you.
